NJ makes available financial assistance for Medicare Savings Programs (MSP).
- Medicare Savings Programs are federally funded programs managed by each state, including NJ. These programs help people with limited income and assets pay for some (or all) of their Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) premiums, deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance.
Older adults and individuals with disabilities who are New Jersey residents may be eligible to enroll in a Medicare Savings Program.
There are program eligibility requirements which are listed below.
Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB)
- Program helps pay for Part A premiums, Part B premiums, and deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments for services and items Medicare covers.
- Must not exceed income or asset eligibility limits. For 2025, income and asset limits are as follows:
- Income: $15,660 for singles and $21,156 for married couples
- Assets: $9,660 for singles and $14,470 for married couples
Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB)
- Program pays Medicare B premiums.
- Must not exceed income or asset eligibility limits. For 2025, income and asset limits are as follows:
- Income $18,780 for singles and $25,380 for married couples
- Assets: $9,660 for singles and $14,470 for married couples
Qualifying Individual (QI)
- Program pays Medicare Part B premiums.
- Must not exceed income or asset eligibility limits. For 2025, income and asset limits are as follows:
- Income: $21,132 for singles and $28,560 for married couples
- Assets: $9,660 for singles and $14,470 for married couples
